Booksigning: Adirondack Trails with Tales by Russell Dunn and Barbara Delaney
Wagon House Education Center/Farm Complex
All Ages
Free
*Vehicle use fee applies
Russell Dunn and Barbara Delaney, authors of Adirondack Trails with Tales: History Hikes through the Adirondack
Park and Lake George, Lake Champlain & Mohawk Valley Region will present a lecture on nineteenth-century American
landscape artists who shaped the vision of the American wilderness. The Hudson River School, as early as 1825-1840,
ventured into the Catskills, Adirondacks, Berkshires, and White Mountains, and their paintings acted as
advertisements for the northeastern forests. They struck a chord with viewers in portraying original picturesque
American landscapes. The second wave of American landscape artists honed and refined the vision of the American
wilderness, using outdoor guides to lead them to the most scenic venues, especially in the thick of the untamed
forests. In the symbiotic process of the painter/guide relationship, the guides and their camps became important
subjects for painting. Today people still seek the scenes portrayed by Winslow Homer and others and still use
guides of one kind or another to show the way to mountains, rivers, and waterfalls. Call (518) 828-1872 for
more information or to reserve.
