Join us for Olana’s Fifth Annual Plein Air Celebration. Interact with competitively selected artists on Friday-Saturday in Olana’s artist-designed landscape. Join us Saturday night for a free Meet-the-Artist Reception, impromptu exhibition, and artist awards along with the opening of Wayfinding: Imaging History with (Our)story. The event concludes with a tent sale in downtown Hudson on Sunday from 11 AM – 4 PM and Artist Appreciation + Winner Exhibition at Caldwell Gallery Hudson from 5 PM – 7 PM. Over the weekend Olana will also offer a number of participatory programs to encourage painting outdoors, landscape tours, and viewing artists at work. Proceeds support education programs at Olana. This event is free and open to all ages.

10 AM – 2 PM: You Paint Plein Air! / East Lawn
Grab some paints and brushes and join us for a morning and afternoon of en plein air painting on the East Lawn at Olana! We will provide all materials including: easels, canvas boards, brushes, and paints. Professional artists will be scattered throughout the landscape – do not be shy to ask for tips and tricks, or to watch and learn. Bring a hat and dress weather accordingly! (Drop-in, all materials provided, $15, all ages)
4:30 PM – 7 PM: Cast your vote for the Viewer’s Choice Award, Wayfinding Artist Project Launch + Reception / Wagon House Education Center
Join the artists for a wine and cheese reception to see the outcome of the competition at the Wagon House Education Center! This will be the first opportunity to buy artwork directly from the artists!
This event is concurrent with the launch of Wayfinding: Imaging History with (Our)story, a socially engaged artwork attempting to bridge ancient history with the 21st century. Wayfinding is a form of plein air project, with paint and canvas replaced by cell phones and computer tablets. The Wayfinding project, designed and developed by Germantown artist Dawn Breeze is funded by Decentralization Funds from NYSCA and by The Olana Partnership. The general public is invited to create images and words on the carriage roads at Olana and post their art into an online gallery that will be in development for the next 12 months. This reception is sponsored by Hudson Wine Merchants, The Cascades, McEnroe Farms, and Old Chatham Sheepherding Company.

Get a head start on your holiday shopping or take advantage of sales at the change of season! Two percent of proceeds, from participating businesses, on October 9th will be donated to Olana’s education programs; so extend the impact of your dollar.

A quick draw is when artists paint or sketch for 1 hour Professional and amateur artists of all ages are invited to compete in the Quick Draw Contest by creating works of downtown Hudson. We will provide the art board and entrants bring their own art supplies (any media is fine) Quick Draw entries will be judged and cash prizes will be awarded. Awarded works will be exhibited in our Winners Exhibition + Artist Celebration from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Caldwell Gallery Hudson. FAQ’s: 2016 Olana Quick Draw.

Join us for the culminating event of Olana’s 2016 Plein Air. The winners of the Plein Air and of the Quick Draw Contest will be exhibited and the public will have a chance to meet the artists.
