Each year The Olana Partnership hosts several enchanting distinctive special events in New York City and the Hudson Valley. Funds raised through special events support the restoration and preservation of the main house at Olana, its collection of paintings, sculpture and furnishings, Olana's farm complex and the 250-acre picturesque landscape designed by Church. Proceeds also benefit research projects and educational programming. We hope you will attend one of these highly anticipated social events and join us in celebrating the legacy of Frederic E. Church, one of the most important landscape painters of the nineteenth century.

The Olana Summer Party

Olana's Sixth Annual Summer Party, from 7-11 pm on July 26, 2008, celebrated Frederic Church and Olana's ties to India, the Land of Mystery. In the 1880's, F. E. Church – increasingly enamored with the hand crafted artisan wood furnishings that Lockwood de Forest had "rediscovered" during his travels in India – began to integrate these remarkable crafts into the interior design at Olana.

The 2008 summer party recognized this important element of Olana's rich and exotic history by creating a fabulous night of Indian delights. Melodious Indian music, an impressive buffet of tantalizing Indian fare, and the visual & auditory beats of NYC's Forward Motion Theater will set the mood.

Our 2008 Summer Party Sponsors included:
Platinum - Esotec, Ltd., Jack and Mary Ellen Higbee, Kingfisher USA, Eileen M. Patrick, Colin and Katrina Stair, Tanjore Indian Cuisine

The Frederic E. Church Award Dinner

January 15, 2008, New York City.

On Tuesday, January 15, 2008, The Hotel Pierre in New York City came alive in celebration of the past, present and future of American Art when The Olana Partnership honored two extraordinary individuals: Alice Walton, the visionary and founding inspiration behind Crystal Bridges, a remarkable new American art museum being in Bentonville, Arkansas - and John Wilmerding, one of the most respected scholars and authorities on American art. Alice Walton and John Wilmerding share a deep commitment to American Art and the role of American artists in shaping our country.

The many facets of Church, his interest in art, architecture, landscape, the environment and education are what make him such an interesting and contemporary figure. Alice Walton and John Wilmerding have shown and continue to show their profound dedication to American art. Their mutual interest in architecture, landscape, the environment and education made them ideal candidates to receive the 2008 Frederic Edwin Church Award.

Preceding the Dinner was a special VIP Reception hosted by Adelson Galleries to preview "The Romantic Landscapes and Seascapes of Frederic Church," a stunning exhibition of rarely exhibited private and public works which opened on Friday, January 18th.
