VISIT: Hours and Fees

Olana is open year-round.  The landscape, designed by Frederic Church, offers an extensive network of carriage drives to explore.  There is a Visitor Center in the former Carriage House, and public programs can be accessed in the Wagon House.  The Church family mansion is open by guided tour.


The Landscape
Open 8am to sunset daily, year round.  On weekends May–October, from 10am to 4pm, there is a vehicle use fee of $5 per car.  All other times admission to the grounds is free.  There is no charge for grounds access to members of The Olana Partnership or holders of the Empire Passport.

Wagon House Educational Center
A variety of programs suitable for all ages, are offered at the Wagon House in the historic farm complex. Please click here for further information.

Visitor Center and Museum Store
Admission to the Visitor Center and Museum Store is included with grounds access.  The Visitor Center offers a film and an illustrated panel display about the life of Frederic Church and the history of Olana.  The Museum Store stocks a wide range of goods inspired by Frederic Church's art and the exotic furnishings of his home.  The Visitor Center and Museum Store are open when house tours are offered (see below for hours). Winter museum store hours: Friday-Sunday, 11am-4pm.

Main Floor and Studio
November 1, 2013-May 2014
Friday–Sunday, 11am-4pm, last tour starts promptly at 3pm.
$9 adult; $8 senior and student with ID;
Free to children under 12 or members of The Olana Partnership

  All guests require a ticket for entry. A lift can provide access to the main floor; request assistance at the Visitor Center at the time of ticket purchase.

The paintings and collections in the richly decorated, Eastern-inspired home illustrate the story of Olana's creation and its importance to Church and his family as a place of refuge and inspiration. Themed tours are occasionally offered: click here for Olana's

Sharp Family Gallery Tour
This gallery is currently closed and will reopen in May 2014.
$9 adult; $8 senior and student with valid ID;
Free to children under 12 or members of The Olana Partnership


Please Note:  All guests require a ticket for entry.  This tour includes several steep flights of stairs.

The exhibitions section lists current and past exhibitions.

Combined Main Floor, Studio, Second Floor and Sharp Gallery
This tour will be available in May 2014.
$12 adult; $10 senior and student with ID; 
Free to children under 12 or members of The Olana Partnership

This tour includes a look at portions of the servants' quarters outfitted with interpretive panels that describe the bustle of activity required to maintain the Church family's lifestyle. On the second floor, visitors enter the spacious Stair Hall Landing and from there can view Frederic and Isabel Church's bedroom suite and Ombra room. Finally, The Evelyn and Maurice Sharp Gallery hosts changing exhibitions on Church's art and life. The exhibitions section lists current and past exhibitions. This tour lasts from 1 -1.25 hours.

Coachmen's House Gallery
This gallery is currently closed and will reopen in May 2014.

Important Tour Information
Tours are filled on a first-come, first served basis and fill quickly, especially on weekends. Reservations are encouraged, especially April–October, although not required.  Click on the reservations page
for our policies.  Reservations are taken during the hours tours of the house are offered (see above).  Call 518-828-0135.

Timely arrival for all tours is required.  Because of ticket demand, reserved tickets will be held until 20 minutes before the tour – if they are not claimed by that time, tickets will be made available to visitors on site and waiting.
