Visitors touring the majestic home of Frederic Church will be led on a trip through time, seeing a remarkably preserved home, complete with much of the original furniture. World-class paintings from Church's personal collection grace the walls of this beautiful mansion. Visitors will learn the story of Church's life, and how he came to build this wonderful mansion overlooking the Hudson River.

VISIT: Tour the Landscape
Olana's landscape was created over forty years of Frederic Church's life and many consider it his greatest work. Over 250 acres of an artist designed landscape that can be experienced by walking over five miles of carriage drives that bisect the property. Walks around the landscape can be as short as 15 minutes to over two hours if one wants to walk the entire carriage drive system. Learn about pond life plants and animals with a walk around the lake at Olana. Did you know that Olana was predominantly meadow around the Ridge Road? Learn about the life of a meadow. Olana started as a farm, and Church was incredibly proud of this. Experience the landscape of the farm and how it transitions to the forest. Staff archaeologists from the New York State Bureau of Historic Sites has conducted extensive excavations at Olana. Read about all of the interesting artifacts that they have discovered.
Frederic Church never tired of his views of the Hudson River, documenting his passion for the Hudson in paintings, oil sketches, and drawings. The best of these are reproduced here in 83 illustrations, 69 in full color, some of them published for the first time. 93 pages, hardcover.
