OLANA CELEBRATES 50 YEARS
Did you know that in 1964, when Mrs. Sally Church died, there was no historic preservation movement as we know it today and, in fact, the trend was toward tearing down historic structures (like Pennsylvania Station in New York City) rather than saving them? Undaunted, a group of dedicated private citizens and public officials formed Olana Preservation, Inc (forerunner of The Olana Partnership) and began the two-year effort to save Olana from destruction that successfully culminated with Olana becoming a New York State Historic Site on June 27, 1966.
2017 marks the 50th anniversary since Olana first opened to the public.
