Saturday, June 23 & August 4 – Artist on Art Tour Inside Olana: Lara Atallah
Artists offer a unique lens with which to “read” an artist’s home & landscape. This season The Olana Partnership (TOP) partners with the Institute for Arab and Islamic Art (IAIA) in NYC to bring a dynamic mix of contemporary artists to Olana to layer their perceptions of Middle Eastern influences in Church’s home of American landscape painting. During this series, artists use many disciplines and “poetic license” to talk about Olana and the exhibition Costume & Custom with concepts and connections that are unique to the guide. This is not a traditional house tour! Artist-led tours are accompanied by TOP’s Director of Education and end with a glass of wine and a snack on the piazza near sunset.
Lara Atallah (b. 1989, Beirut) is a New York-based artist and writer. Her practice is informed by her interest in the political nature of landscape, and the power it holds to reshape our perception of borders. Using an array of different image-making methods such as Polaroids, still life, sun prints, and digital collages to manipulate narratives, her work examines how the act of crossing a boundary or drawing one impacts the photographic image. She holds an MFA in Photography from Parsons The New School of Design. Her work has been exhibited in the US and internationally, and is part of the Onassis Cultural Foundation’s collection in Athens. She was also the 2015 recipient of the Georgia Fee Artist residency in Paris.
